I’ve found the Communities of Practice perspective to be a wonderful tool for thinking about what education, homeschooling, and lifelong learning are really all about.
This was one of the books we read when we were considering homschooling our kids. The sheer variety of homeschooling practices among these families is breathtaking — and encouraging! A must must-read if you are considering whether homeschooling is right for your family, or if you are curious as to what all this is about.
A great account of one family’s journey to a different way of thinking about education, and the source of one of my favorite quotes: “Slowly, without our realizing it, we had discovered a profound truth about education: we did not need to know everything, we simply had to have a desire to help one another learn together.” So true! and for more than just homeschooling….
